Thought-provoking quotes from “Stranger Things”

Always a little behind in my TV watching, I recently finished the Netflix series “Stranger Things.” Perhaps the best way to describe it is as a cross between the “The X-Files” and “Freaks and Geeks,” with a smattering of “Red Dawn,” “E.T. the Extra Terrestrial,” “It” and “The Thing.”

The dialogue, foreshadowing and pacing make the show a writer’s dream. The ‘80s references, the soundtrack and the atmosphere make it pure fun.

Here are a few of my favorite quotations from characters in the series:

1. “Mornings are for coffee and contemplation.”
Chief of police Jim Hopper

2. “We never would’ve upset you if we knew you had superpowers.”
12-year-old Dustin Henderson

3. Dustin: “You’re going to take out the demigorgon with a slingshot?”
Lucas: “First of all, it’s a wrist-rocket.”
Dustin Henderson and 12-year-old Lucas Sinclair

4. Science is neat, but I’m afraid it’s not very forgiving.”
Science teacher Scott Clarke.

5. Dustin: “Why do we even need weapons anyway? We have her.”
Lucas: “She shut one door!”
Dustin: “With her mind!”

6. “This is not yours to fix alone. You act like you’re all alone out there in the world, but you’re not. You’re not alone.”
Joyce Byers, mother of Will Byers, who has disappeared

7. Dustin: “You always say we should never stop being curious, to always open any curiosity door we find.”
Scott Clarke: “Dustin …”
Dustin: “Why are you keeping this curiosity door locked?”

8. “Only love makes you that crazy, sweetheart, and that damn stupid.”
Police secretary Florence

9. “Don’t take it so personally, okay? I don’t like most people. He’s in the vast majority.”
Teenager Jonathan Byers
